WHAT IS THE RACE?

Untitled-1

The Great Contraption Race (GCR) is a timed 8 mile water race down the mighty Niagara River beginning at Lewiston Landing and finishing at Fort Niagara State Park in Youngstown, NY. Costumes and themed contraptions are highly recommended! After the race, join us in the beautiful Village of Youngstown for the Awards Ceremony and party for race participants, spectators and visitors with specials from local restaurants, taverns and businesses, live music, dancing and fun for all ages!

The race occurs on floating contraptions designed and built by each team. The contraptions must be made mostly from recycled materials, they must be able to float and the contraption can only be powered by human power, and/or a man-made sail to float down the River! Get creative, get colorful and get to work! For Rules and Regulations click HERE and to Register click HERE

Proceeds from this great event are going to the very worthy, ‘It Happened To Alexa Foundation.’ The Alexa Foundation is a national charity based in Lewiston, NY. The mission of the IT HAPPENED TO ALEXA FOUNDATION is to have sexual assault victims become survivors and to put their attackers in jail. They provide financial, emotional and advocacy assistance to the victims at the time of the trial. Additionally, they provide educational outreach for students in Niagara, Erie and Orleans counties presenting programs that give students the tools for recognizing red flags in an unhealthy relationship, understanding what consent is and is not, as well as a program for students entering college called “The Red Zone” which is the first six weeks on campus when more students become rape victims than any other time during their school years.
